Tragedy as Malawi diplomat’s wife throws children, dies

In New York a Malawi Mission wife, Olive Mwalilino, 21, hurled her two infants from an 18th floor apartment then leaped to death. Police said the courtyard resembled a battlefield as witnesses reported screams and a repairman saw the woman at the window.

Mansfield Man Guilty In Bank Robbery

Robert Eugene Webster 26 of Mansfield pleaded guilty to the July 15 robbery of the First National Bank of Mansfield. Federal Judge Girard Kalbfleisch sentenced him to 12 years in prison after he was captured two hours later.

In Swansea Wales a teacher preparing lunch for 16 pupils sprinkled rat poison on rice pudding by mistake. The pudding turned blue and the children refused to eat it.

Johnson approval slides from 84 to 48 percent

President Johnson saw his popular support fall from 84 percent soon after his election to 48 percent in September. Republican National Chairman Ray C. Bliss attributed the decline to a national opinion poll released Thursday.

Spock to retire early from Western Reserve University

Judge Denies Change of Venue for Dr Sheppard Trial

Cleveland UPI The judge presiding over Dr Samuel Sheppard's second murder trial ruled the defense has not shown a fair and impartial trial cannot be held in this county and will hold in abeyance a venue change until juror examination. The trial was delayed to January 24 to allow F Lee Bailey to appear in New Jersey.

Norwalk Truck Slams Into Area Building in Wet Route 6 Crash

A Norwalk Truck Lines tractor trailer slammed into a closed general store five miles west of Vermilion on Route 6. Alfred J. Oberdorf 57 Clyde was eastbound and failed to negotiate a curve causing the truck to skid and jackknife into the store front. The two story building owned by John Suhr Norwalk suffered heavy damage and the upper story collapsed. Oberdorf escaped with minor injuries and was cited for excessive speed for conditions. Damages to the tractor trailer were estimated at 7000 dollars and the store at 25000 dollars. The incident closed the road briefly while wreckers freed the tractor.

Sandusky planners report the Tri County Campus Branch of Bowling Green University is 2 1/2 weeks behind schedule due to weather delaying the topo graphical survey. Architect Visnapuu promises to recover time as final plans proceed. The two building complex totals 92 340 square feet, meeting the state minimum.

Car Fire Interrupts Willard Firemen Dinner Banquet

At a Willard dining banquet 58 firefighters and guests fled to tackle a car fire near Hanville Corners in Greenfield Township. The new car rolled into a tree after the driver forgot to set the brake, killing the vehicle. Firemen returned to finish the meal as the supper was salvaged.

Johnson expected to order reserve callup before year end

A high congressional source said President Johnson would order a reserve callup by year end, possibly on his return from the Manila summit in early November. The tipoffs include a sharply lowered December draft and full training centers, with Senate urging action noted by UP.
