The New York Mets arrive in Baltimore for the World Series with mayor John Lindsay predicting a four game sweep of the Orioles in the opening series set to start Saturday.
Rep. Adam Clayton Powell claims to be a part-time congressman while missing all 110 quorum calls since January 3 and voting only nine times in 97 votes. The Harlem Democrat, once chairman of the Education and Labor Committee, has not attended a committee session since the 91st Congress began after losing seniority.
A UPI report from Chicago describes police awaiting potential student clashes after a quiet night. The Weatherman faction did not appear, while crowds kept away by rain at Lincoln Park.
The first degree murder trial of John W. Brown in Huron County Common Pleas Court is postponed two weeks to Oct. 27 by Judge Robert J. Vetter. Sixty jurors were summoned. Brown of Bellevue is charged in the death of William Famulare, also of Bellevue. Brown’s case has been postponed three times.
Dr. Marshall Orloff of the University of California in San Diego says weekend drinking three or four cocktails can cause direct liver toxicity. He notes repeated damage leads to cirrhosis and cites a New York study as direct proof of alcohol harming liver cells.
United Fund publicity chief Del Arrington says the weekly lowest collector will ride a donated 1960 station wagon painted orange with lemon lettering reading loser of week. The car remains in front of the driver’s business until a higher total is reached. Chief L C Hilson approves legal parking.
Gov. James A. Rhodes will dedicate the new Sportsmen's Service Center in Wyandot County at Killdeer Plains Wildlife Area. The 90 by 36 foot building cost 93 526 dollars and will serve as hunter checking station training site educational center field trials headquarters and the area manager's office with Natural Resources Director Fred Marr assisting.
Former Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey told reporters at the White House that President Nixon is proceeding along the right path on Vietnam. He said the President should be given time to carry out his proposals and policies.
UPI reports Judge Morris E. Lasker refused the Girl Scouts of America’s request for a temporary injunction to stop Personality Posters Manufacturing Co. from distributing a pop-art poster showing a smiling pregnant Girl Scout with the slogan Be Prepared. The court dismissed the $1 million defamation suit.

The Senate Finance Committee rejected a House measure to tax interest on state and municipal bonds. Opponents argued it would raise little federal revenue while forcing higher interest costs for cities and states financing schools libraries parks and highways.
Norwalk Mayor Harold Finch vetoed the $60,000 annual ambulance subsidy after a turbulent council session. He cited excessive emotion and said bids should be sought to determine the lowest and best option between Mansfield Ambulance and Norwalk Ambulance, with two weeks to reconsider.
