Night to Remember in Norwalk as Shearing Plays Quiet, Poised Set

Blind pianist George Shearing headlined at Norwalk High School for the Norwalk Concert Association. The quintet drew a middle aged audience with jazzy easy listening, performing old favorites and songs like Send in the Clowns. DeHaas filled in on bass after a death in the family, while lighting and staging limits at the Towne & Country Theatre challenged officials. The concert, backed by the Ohio Arts Council, marked a season shaped by a leaner setup and a reflective, intimate mood.
