City Gas Pact Stalls Over Residential Rates
The City Gas Pact remains unresolved as the City Council committee and Columbia Gas sit about 18000 apart in proposed charges. Don Phelps described profits under 6.05 cents per hundred cubic feet plus a $3 monthly fee versus the city's 5.25 cents and $3.30 charge. He estimated returns of 10.82 percent ($2.83 million) or 8.29 percent ($2.82 million) respectively, while committee co chair Lawrence Bresson said figures still baffle him and would be reviewed with Vernis George. The magic target may lie between 5.3 and 9.5 cents as talks continue on a contract since January.
