The Senate votes 64 to 19 against a Gravel amendment to a 21 billion military bill banning bombing in Indochina except to protect American troops. Gravel likens bombing civilians to Nazi Germany in World War II.
The Norwalk power plant breakdown crippled local industry with factory shutdowns and shifted to generators. Westinghouse and Byesville operations suffer as production drops, overtime costs rise, and scheduled shifts adapt while officials target restoration by Wednesday.

Royce Shopping Centers of New York announces a 120000 square foot center on the U S 20 bypass in Norwalk on 12 acres next to Fisher Wayside Furniture. Major tenant will be Masons Discount Department Store with about 15 stores and a mini theatre. Construction to begin in April with opening planned for October 1972.
White House announced Kissinger will visit Peking later this month to set a date for Nixon's planned visit to Red China. He will be joined by staff and State Department officials as direct contact continues despite no formal diplomatic relations.
A Norwalk fireman received first degree facial burns at the Martin Bird residence 21 Breezewood Ave while assisting to douse a clothes dryer fire. Ernest Midkiff carried smoldering garments outside as his face burned. he was treated and returned to duty. Fire officials blamed a dryer malfunction for overheating and igniting the clothes. a stack of clothes on top burst into flames. the home filled with smoke and soot. clothes and dryer were destroyed.
The sheriff's department investigated a break-in at Firelands Motor Sales Inc on Ohio 269 near Bellevue this morning. Investigating officer Sgt Lloyd Smith was at the scene with no further details available at press time.
State Rep. Ethel G. Swanbeck reports 52 readable letters from Huron County showing 49 favoring a graduated state income tax and 3 seeking a sales tax. A Norwalk letter urged no taxes. The Senate passed a 1 percent sales tax hike. Swanbeck and 80 other House members opposed the change while she had voted for the income tax bill.
