Monroeville football players allegedly took St Pauls playbook after a St Paul New London game at Whitney Field. Flyers coach Dick Alge demanded its return while Monroeville coach Doug Short admitted ownership and promised to hand it back.
President Carter told the United Nations General Assembly he would halve the U.S. nuclear arsenal if Russia matches the move and said the United States would use weapons only in self defense. He announced a new policy banning first use and urged a broad arms control pact.
About 11:30 this morning workers at the Durable Mat plant 75 N Pleasant St walked off in a wildcat strike. Plant manager Bill Gilbert called it sudden with no warning. A nonunion employee cited wage and safety concerns. A 12:45 meeting was planned to discuss the dispute.

Former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was freed from custody after being arrested on corruption charges. A packed New Delhi courtroom heard magistrate Ripu Sudan Dayal declare there was no reasonable ground for detention and ordered release. Spectators greeted the ruling with chants of Long live Indira Gandhi.
