Sir Winston Churchill marks his 90th birthday in London with a quiet dinner at his home. Clementine Churchill and about 14 family members and close friends are expected to attend as oysters champagne and a cake are on the menu.
A crowd of about 1000 gathered near Hyde Park Gate awaiting Sir Winston Churchill’s birthday appearance as mail to the Churchill residence swells beyond 60 000 items. The confection was praised as simple and dignified and Churchill was briefly seen in a green velvet siren suit.
Northern Ohio Telephone Co workers end an eight week strike after approving a one year contract by 287 to 209. The deal grants average raises of 6.86 cents per hour for operating personnel and 11.33 cents per hour for plant staff.
