Vietnam veteran killed in Thanksgiving car crash near Norwalk
A 23 year old Vietnam veteran, John K. McFarlin of North Fairfield, died instantly when his Volkswagen collided with a tractor trailer on U S 20 at Old State Road east of Norwalk at 1 40 a m Thanksgiving Day. McFarlin, former helicopter chief in the First Cavalry Division, had returned from Vietnam four months earlier and was en route to a restaurant after leaving a friend's house. The driver of the tractor trailer, Jack W. McClure of Parma, was unharmed. The crash occurred just outside the city limits, with no citation issued. McFarlin’s body was taken to Kubach Smith Funeral Home. He is survived by his parents, three sisters, two brothers, and other relatives. Funeral services are set for 2 p m Saturday with military graveside rites at North Fairfield Cemetery.

Police chief urges mass force to curb riots in civil unrest

Rhodes Eyes $700 Million Bond for Transportation Grants
Gov James A Rhodes announced a definite plan to seek a 700 million bond to fund transportation research and construction. He first floated the bond Wednesday saying he might submit it, and confirmed the move will come soon after the legislature reconvenes on January 15. Dr Hans Zellweger of the State University of Iowa confirms the first documented case of a child born deformed after maternal LSD use in early pregnancy. The 19 year old Iowa resident took LSD four times in the seventh week and gave birth to a girl with a deformed right leg.

National Kettle Day activities in Norwalk see four Salvation Army kettles set up citywide. The Annual Christmas Appeal runs through the Saturday before Christmas to fund sunshine kits for the aged and food baskets for 110 families and 848 toys for 424 children last year.
