Milford youths blamed for cat arson sparks big fuel blaze
Four Milford High School students allegedly set a cat on fire during a homecoming prank. The flaming cat caused a $25,000 fire at the CD Farm Service fuel bulk plant on September 19, rupturing a tank and spreading oil while about 90 firefighters battled the flames. Three defendants, aged 17, face animal cruelty charges as juveniles. Michael D. Millen, 18, will be tried as an adult.

Melancholy Led To Arrest Says Former Governor
Former Michigan Governor John B. Swainson says melancholy over the 33rd anniversary of his World War II land mine injury may have contributed to his predawn arrest for drunk driving in Napoleon. Police say he drove erratically, tested intoxicated, and a marijuana cigarette was found in his suit pocket. Swainson, 53, resigned from the Michigan Supreme Court after a 1975 perjury conviction and noted he had been at a state senator’s party the previous night.
