UPI reports Gulf Oil executives spent about 400000 annually on gifts to politicians over a decade. Records show gifts to Gerald Ford and Lloyd Bentsen, among others, from a Gulf employee fund may have been legal, though funds were sometimes mixed with illegal Bahamas subsidiary money.
The congressional intelligence committee approved three resolutions seeking House contempt for Secretary of State Kissinger over withheld subpoenaed documents. Kissinger said he acted under executive privilege granted by President Ford and expressed regret at being cited in contempt.
