Fireman Apprentice Jerry L. MacDonald of Norwalk dived into 15 foot waters beneath State Pier in New Bedford to rescue eight year old Douglas Estrella after a section of the pier collapsed. He pulled the boy to safety as Cavalla crew assisted. The boy’s father expressed relief that his son is alive. MacDonald called the moment a cold experience.
