Ex-Grid Star In Court

Former Ohio State fullback Robert Eugene Ferguson 32 pleaded innocent in Municipal Court to gambling charges and amphetamine possession. He faces charges including odds tickets promoting a scheme of chance playing a game for money recording a wager and amphetamine possession. Ferguson named to All-American team 1960 and 1961 requested a jury trial.

Krogh Will Remain Norwalk Safety-Service Director

Norwalk will keep Herbert O. Krogh as safety-service director under mayor-elect Wayne Goodsite. Krogh, 54, was named by former Mayor Harold Finch and resigned as Sheller Globe plant manager to take the city post. Goodsite announced the plan after meeting with the incoming council and Auditor-elect Douglas Colvin, saying Krogh will continue in the role at the start of the new administration.

New teen mayor-elect in Ohio amid national watch

Newcomerstown Ohio applauded Ronald Hooker 19 as the youngest mayor elect as Gov Gilligan warned the nation will watch his actions for signs of immaturity. The event followed Hooker’s victory last Tuesday and a Monday rally in the Tuscarawas County town of 4500.

Ohio House to vote on $832 million tax package

The Ohio House schedules a vote later today on a package totaling 832 million dollars in new taxes to fund an 8.1 billion two year budget. The plan includes raising the state sales tax from four to five percent and was approved 4 to 2 by a bipartisan conference committee.

Pay Board Sets 5.5 Percent Wage Hikes Post Freeze

Washington reports the Pay Board approved 5.5 percent wage increases for new contracts to take effect after the freeze. Existing contracts may rise if not inconsistent with inflation goals, with retroactivity limited and back pay possible only in specific post freeze replacements. Labor opposed the decision, while industry and public members supported it.

Mrs. Ben Ruhlin of Cuyahoga Falls plans a punitive campaign against congressmen who opposed the back to school prayer measure. The amendment fell short of a constitutional two thirds with 240 voting for and 162 against.

College Costs Rise 9.1 Percent in State Schools

East Ohio Gas Co says state supported colleges cost 9.1 percent more this year while private schools rise 7.2 percent. Average yearly cost at a state school is 1882 dollars, about 30 percent above the national average, and private schools average 2843 dollars, 2.6 percent below the national average. Ohio Chancellor Millett cites low legislative support for public higher education as the reason for higher tuitions.

Norwalk Man Pleads Not Guilty in Marijuana Case

Jerry L. Neuberger 24 of Huber Road Norwalk pleaded not guilty to possessing and furnishing marijuana and was released on a $10 000 property bond. He was arrested Monday at 7 p m at his home by Norwalk officer Gerald Ross. The former Firelands Campus student is accused of giving away marijuana on November 6.
