Nixon Ends Campaign After Telethon in Burbank Studio

Richard Nixon wrapped up his second presidential bid with a four hour telethon from a Burbank studio answering calls from across the nation. He reflected on the campaign's tolls and addressed points raised since it began in September. George C. Wallace, meanwhile, predicted a lasting impact from his third party bid as he prepared to vote in Clayton and watch returns at Garrett Coliseum with running mate Curtis LeMay. He said the movement has already won and foresees influence on future campaigns.

LeMay Promises Pueblo Return If Wallace Wins

Retired Gen Curtis LeMay told about 600 supporters at a Santa Ana Elks Club dinner that if he and George Wallace win the presidency they will recover the ship Pueblo from North Korea. He planned to vote in Bel Air then fly to Alabama to await returns. He said action was overdue after Pueblo's capture.

Humphrey Heads Home After 100000 Miles Campaign

Hubert H. Humphrey, back at his rural Minnesota lakeside home, votes today as the nation decides his political fate. He flew in from Los Angeles after a nationwide campaign that started with his April candidacy and surged after winning the Democratic nomination at the Chicago convention in August.

Norwalk Native Given Distinguished Service Cross in Vietnam

Captain Denny R. Vaughn, former Norwalk resident, received the Distinguished Service Cross from General Abrams for a 20-man air rescue near Kontum on April 18. Vaughn later served in Colorado Springs with wife Shirley and children, having earned the DSC along with the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal and Air Medal.
