Judge rules Carter overstepped constitutional powers in wage price sanctions

UPI reports U.S. District Judge Barrington Parker voided key parts of President Carter's wage price sanctions, ruling the guidelines exceed executive authority. AFL-CIO and 10 unions urged removal of the mandatory controls, while Carter defended the program as voluntary and largely within contract norms. The ruling notes inflation is a difficult domestic issue and cites recent wage settlements and a national price monitoring effort.

Smith orders double bunks to ease Huron County Jail crowding
