Turkish authorities report a five-ship Soviet naval task force, led by the 4,750-ton Magomet Gadzhiev and four motor torpedo boats, passed the Dardanelles en route to the Mediterranean where the U S 6th Fleet awaits amid Middle East tensions.
The second instalment of the rain delayed 500 mile race starts with Parnelli Jones in a turbine car at the front of 32 entries. He set three records in the opening 45 miles before rain halted action and the field begins a single file start near 11 a.m. EDT. In a separate note, police clear about 500 motorcyclists from Geneva on the Lake after holi day disturbances as a 20 year old Ashtabula girl reports rape by four cyclists. Two suspects are arrested.
Unseasonably cool weather grips Ohio from Thursday to Monday with highs in the upper 60s north to low 70s south and lows in the upper 40s to low 50s. Rain is minimal in the northeast and a quarter to a half inch in the southwest around Thursday. In New York Mrs. John F Kennedy and Mrs. Robert F Kennedy postpone a $1,000-a-couple charity dinner dance due to recent family deaths. The event at El Morocco, June 7, had seen disappointing ticket sales.

Sgt. Claude Howard of rural Olena is Huron County's fifth Vietnam War fatality after a sniper shot him in the chest near Quang Tin South Vietnam. He had been in Vietnam six months and left for overseas just before Christmas. He was 20, a 1965 New London High School graduate, engaged to Esther Weiner, and had risen to sergeant in the radio unit with 17 men. Born in Kentucky, he moved here 5 1/2 years ago. his family includes parents Woodrow and the ill. His brother Carl serves in the Air Force.
Two rings and a wristwatch totaling just over 300 dollars were reported missing from a Willard Trailer Park mobile home. Daryle Holt said the items were in the bedroom since Sunday, including his wife engagement and wedding bands valued at 275 dollars and a 26 dollar wrist watch. BERLIN HEIGHTS The Berlin Milan School Board will hold a work session tonight to discuss staff and teacher proposals from last Wednesday. Charles Lindecamp would not reveal details but indicated recommendations may be finalized at the June 14 board meeting. A jury was selected in Huron County for a 50 thousand dollar civil suit filed by Cornelius C. Rospert for his daughter Patricia against Emma G. Hines stemming from a Route 20 crash near Bellevue on Dec 7, 1965. Norwalk firemen responded to a five gallon gasoline can fire near a backyard grill during Memorial Day parade. John Walden said gasoline was thrown on the grass.
British actor Claude Rains, famed for a commanding stage and film presence, died Tuesday at Lakes Region Hospital in Sandwich New Hampshire. He rose from a page boy earning two dollars a week to a $1 280 000 movie role at age 55 in Gabriel Pascal's Caesar and Cleopatra.

A Monroeville man Howard M. Herner 21 and Bellevue teen Mary K. Scott 18 were killed when a Corvette traveling at extreme speed lost control on U. S. 20 near Lyme School, after a chase by State Highway Patrolman Richard Wrench. The crash occurred Tuesday at 7:58 p.m. as a former Norwalk resident also died in a separate one car crash Monday.
A Bellevue man mistook a crash victim for his daughter after a car crash in Lyme Township. The killed woman turned out to be his daughter’s husband’s passenger, and the daughter returned home later with the two children, revealing the error.
Norwalk held a large Memorial Day tribute featuring a 25 minute parade on Main Street with 600 participants. Bands, a drum and bugle corps, Boy and Girl Scouts, veterans groups, students, and floats marched past as Joe Rice urged vigilance against aggressive powers and referenced history from 1914 onward.
John W. Kiser of 44 Rosedale Blvd was elected state secretary of the Ohio State Council Knights of Columbus at the convention in Cincinnati. Robert E. Vogelpohl of Cincinnati won state deputy. Delegates and guests from the Norwalk area included Mr and Mrs Robert Roth Mr and Mrs Robert Kramer Donald Wheeler Dominic Coletta Norbert Roth Robert J Laux and Francis Ruffing among about 1500 attendees.
