Fire destroys Mansfield department store after explosion
In Mansfield Ohio an explosion and eight hour blaze leveled the two story R B Maxwell Department Store. Firemen say the building was contained to one structure with 60 plus firefighters on scene. Store manager M L Barnett suffered severe burns but is hospitalized in good condition. Two employees were rescued and three firefighters treated for smoke inhalation. Police report few customers were inside at the time. The blast is believed to have started when an air conditioner exploded as Barnett turned it on.
