A Superior Court judge labeled Susan Atkins a danger to any community and sentenced her to life imprisonment for the first degree murder of musician Gary Hinman. Atkins, 23, a member of Charles Manson's "family," pleaded guilty to Hinman's death, one of nine killings attributed to the Manson cult.
Galion Ohio police seek 100 dollar monthly pay raise after a sick call strike that began Tuesday. City council offered 13 cents an hour and nine officers remain on 12 hour shifts while thirteen stay off sick.
Huron County Banking Co will pay 200 per share for all 7 200 shares of Savings and Loan Banking Co of New London in a statutory merger to create a branch. Total assets and liabilities amount to 1 440 000. State and federal approval unlikely before four to five months with a target wound up by November.
The antiwar Lobby of Americans announced a focused push to win 11 Senate votes needed to pass a Hatfield McGovern amendment calling for total U.S. withdrawal from Vietnam by December 31. Spokesmen said 39 of 100 senators have pledged support.
Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau and his wife Margaret depart Leningrad after an 11 day Soviet tour. Trudeau says the trip yields diplomatic gains for Canada including broader foreign relations and greater room with the United States, the so called elephant in the room.
Lieutenant Gov. John W. Brown said Gov. John J. Gilligan spent more than four months drafting the 9.1 billion budget and implied the House should have passed it in four weeks. Brown, a Republican, praised Republicans for taking time to cut what he called fat and waste.

A 19 year old Grafton man Larry A Higdon was arrested on an assault with a deadly weapon charge after allegedly stopping a woman driving on Ohio 60 south of Wakeman placing a knife to her throat and attempting to force her from her car. The incident occurred about 10 45 p m Monday May 17. Higdon entered a not guilty plea in Common Pleas Court and is held on 4000 cash or 8000 property bond. He works as a stock boy at a Lorain discount store.
About 125 to 150 travel trailers arrive at the Huron County Fairgrounds for a weekend Ohio Avion Travelcade Unit Rally. John O'Hara, state president, directs the event with meetings and entertainment planned for tourers. The group will tour the Firelands area and a unit queen named “Teen Queen” will be chosen.
James Schuler and James Hendrickson outlined a self started off street parking plan for central Sandusky. They reported 88 percent of property owners signed petitions to create a special assessment district. The city would cover half the 521 275 cost with the rest from owners. The plan would add 256 free spaces and remove blighted buildings.
