City police ask 100 veterans to retire to save jobs

Cleveland safety director George W. OConnor said about 100 officers with 33 or more years on the force were asked to retire to avoid firing younger officers. Police Chief Lewis Coffey said most cuts already hit traffic, the detective, juvenile units, and the special task force leaving only basic patrols.
