Oberlin police seek NY narcotics supplier for six students

Oberlin Ohio police chief Robert Ferber said he is working with the Federal Bureau of Narcotics to identify a New York supplier of narcotics to six Oberlin College students who were arrested Monday. Susan Stowell 18 of Highland Park Illinois was arraigned in municipal court on a marijuana possession charge and released on $2000 bond pending a hearing next Monday.

Evacuation as rain floods Resurrection City camp

Cold wind and relentless rain toppled the dining tent at Resurrection City forcing evacuation of Poor People campaigners from huts amid five inches of standing water. The 15 acre encampment sits in a park built on fill from the Potomac River Bay.

Saginaw Wire to Close Michigan Plant and Expand Norwalk Site

Elderly Woman Swindled by Impostor Power Plant Workers

Odessa Coy of New Haven reported to the Huron County Sheriff’s department that three men posing as Ohio Power Plant employees defrauded her of 600 dollars on May 8. They claimed to replace wiring and sprayed aluminum paint, issued an 800 dollar bill, and coerced her to pay. One man described as tall and dark haired. another as short with odd eyes. a third remained outside.

Final Vote Set On City Charter

Norwalk Charter Commission prepares final action tonight at 7 30 p m in Cole School to approve the charter before submission to voters next November. The 14 members expect to sign, then send to Squires Sanders and Dempsey for a final check before printing. The document proposes a city manager as chief administrator replacing the current part time mayor and safety director.

Second Exam Set For Welfare Post

Huron County Commissioners on Monday asked the State Welfare Department to schedule a second examination for the welfare director position. They rejected the incomplete listing of applicant Laverne Heyman of Monroeville, the only qualified candidate who attended the May 4 exam. Charles Flory has served as acting welfare director since December.

Hearing Set On Fee Hike In Huron County

Huron County Commissioners set two public hearings on a proposed $5 motor vehicle license tag fee increase. If approved the funds would finance roads highways streets bridges and culverts. The meetings are at 10 a.m. June 17 and June 24 at the courthouse in the commissioners office.

Parents of GI To Get Awards

The Norwalk Memorial Day Parade Program will honor Craig Barry Roydes, killed in Vietnam, on November 7. Major Hugh Bauer will present the posthumous Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Roydes of 41 Marshall St., Norwalk.
