Massey-Ferguson Co announces relocation of its industrial and construction machinery group from Detroit to Cuyahoga Falls Ohio starting August 1. All Oakman plant operations and offices relocate, including crawler tractors backhoe loaders forklifts and turf maintenance machines.
The House passed a four year extension of the draft, guaranteeing college men they won’t be called up until they earn a bachelor’s degree. The bill blocks undergraduate deferments from termination unless military needs cannot be met without inducting students.
About 2,700 Ohio National Guardsmen will spend three weeks at summer training Aug 12 to Sept 2 in Eastern North Carolina as part of Operation Kitty Hawk. The 3rd Brigade, 37th Infantry Division will participate while Norwalk unit notes no change. In a separate vote, the Ohio House approved allowing a living person to donate all or part of their body to medical science after death without next of kin approval.

UPI reports thousands of U.S. Marines slammed back into the DMZ and assaulted a hilltop fortress harassing troops. In a six hour battle the Leathernecks pushed the North Vietnamese from the fortress and chased them into the surrounding hills.

Sheryl Ann LaRoche 4 fell from a car on U S 250 near Norwalk as a door opened during extraction. She suffered a fractured collarbone and was treated and released from Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital. A truck driver was cited for unsafe vehicle operation after his semi trailer’s undercarriage damaged.
Milan native Elmer Smith hit the first grand slam in World Series history on October 10, 1920, as Cleveland faced Brooklyn in a dramatic game. The former Indians, Red Sox, and Yankees outfielder reflected on a 20-year career, his Milan roots, and changes in baseball.
The Norwalk Grass Roots anti poverty group will hold future meetings with invited participants including the Ohio State Employment Service manager in Norwalk and Huron County Welfare Director George Lawrence. At a 2 1 2 hour meeting Tuesday night concerns focused on employment budget housing and discrimination with Earl Lover criticizing local employment practices as a joke and claiming limited opportunities for Negro Appalachian and Mexican American workers. Connie Smith and Rufus Holden supported the discrimination claim with emphasis on Negro women facing bias while men reportedly face lower pay and less chance to find work.
