County may be without humane officer soon
Huron County may lack a full time humane officer after Roselle Ward retires this summer. Deputy Gloria Bickley, 26, asked commissioners for funding to keep the animal shelter open and continue animal abuse investigations. She cannot afford $3,500 salary, and the Humane Society cannot hire a replacement. County officials view the Humane Society as a donor funded, noncounty entity with only a $300 annual minimum obligation, and express reluctance to increase support despite overpopulation of stray cats and disease concerns.
