Alexander hits two game winners as Indians top Tigers
Cleveland catcher Gary Alexander, mired in a .205 average, drove in four runs including a two run homer in the ninth to lift the Indians past Detroit 9 7. He added a fifth inning two run single and tied the game in the eighth with a sacrifice fly as Cleveland built a five run fifth. Reliever Dan Spillner earned the win after sealing the 9 7 decision with four scoreless innings. Tigers starter Milt Wilcox was chased in the fourth as Detroit squandered a 5 0 lead before the Indians surged back.
