Israel approves hardline opening for Egypt talks

The Israeli cabinet endorsed Prime Minister Menachem Begin's firm初 stance for negotiations with Egypt on Palestinian autonomy. Defense Minister Weizman was initially excused from the talks committee but was overridden and will participate as negotiations set to begin Friday. Begin briefed the Foreign and Defense Committee after the cabinet meeting as parliament readied a no confidence debate amid rising inflation.

UAW seeks Europe style company paid education leave

Detroit UPI reports the United Auto Workers push for a common European earned education leave in the contract package with the Big Three. UAW officials say company funded schooling is common in Europe and they expect automakers to adopt the plan this summer as part of the negotiations.
