Food Prices Seen Rising More Than Government Forecast
NAFC economist Dr. S Kent Christensen warns retail food prices in 1970 may rise 5.5 to 6 percent, driven by higher labor and transportation costs. He says USDA projections of about 4.5 percent are too conservative and miss marketing cost effects. Prices rose 4.8 percent in 1969 and gains this year may slow to around 1.5 percent further, Christensen adds.
