The first manned free balloon launched from Norwalk Airport ascended at noon with Akron natives Jim Contos and Bob Hayes aboard a four foot square wicker basket. The event marks a Norwalk anniversary salute to Charles Lindbergh and aims to spur future launches this summer by the National Lighter Than Air group.

Kidnapped 5 Year Old Deborah McLean In Corpus Christi
Deborah Kay McLean, 5, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard McLean, was snatched from her bed in a middle class Corpus Christi home. A window screen was removed and a 1962 off white station wagon vanished from the garage. Police found a man’s shoe prints and say the motive may not be money or revenge. The 7-year-old sister slept through the incident.
