Protests in Saigon against aid to Ky government ended after police used tear gas. In Da Nang government forces used planes and tanks against rebels for the first time.
A forecast shows partly cloudy mild conditions today and Saturday with widely scattered light showers. Highs reach 70 to 75, lows around 50, with sunrise at 5 04 and sunset at 7 44. Thursday's high 72 and low 45. Births report a daughter to Mr and Mrs Dale Beck and a daughter to Mr and Mrs Robert Shupe. Deaths note Ralph L Bohn, 75.
Community members circle a petition supporting Norwalk High School football coach Tony Zuppe after his dismissal. Insurance agent Mike Battles says the document, from concerned taxpayers, urges retention for the 1966 season and notes about 200 signatures collected by Merle Hill of Hills Floor Covering by 11:30 a.m.
Sen Stephen M Young of Ohio may be charged with obstructing justice for criticizing Judge Dewitt S Hyde's lenient sentence in a drunken driving case. Hyde asked DC prosecutors to consider charges and whether congressional immunity applies to potential arrest.
An 11 year old Shiloh boy found a dated April 10 1774 Maryland colonial note in old books. The bill was authenticated by a Bellevue coin and stamp dealer who valued it at about ten dollars or more. Local bank president and Cleveland banker called the find valuable.
Civil Service Commission results for police and fire positions will be certified to the Board of Control early next week. Mayor Harold E. Finch and Service Director Morley Price will make the appointments. three police captains sought chief of police, four patrolmen for vacancies, and one fireman examiner for future eligibility. A downtown parking meeting in Norwalk tonight will discuss parking expansion and options on Main Street, with a public meeting set for Monday night in the council chamber.
Roger M. Powers aged 22 of 9 W Elm Sr is jailed on a charge of stabbing with intent to wound after a warrant was issued by the Huron County prosecutor. Powers is accused of stabbing Robert H. Coy of Sandusky Wednesday night. Coy was treated at Fisher-Titus Memorial Hospital for three stab wounds.
City officials including Mayor Harold E. Finch and County Engineer Urban Livengood announced an overpass will be built at the Route 18 and Norwalk bypass intersection after discussions with Ohio Highways Director Pearl Masheter. Deputy director Don Timmer confirmed the plan for a grade separation and interchange to replace the planned at grade intersection.
Bellevue police and Huron County deputies investigated a mysterious incident after a male body found on a Norfolk and Western gondola car near Prairie Road in Huron County reportedly rose and walked away while en route to the coroner. The car had arrived on a train from Frankfort Indiana and was set aside for icing.
A car driven by William M. Redd failed to stop at Route 113 and struck a cement block pile, a telephone guy wire, and a parked car, then rammed a garage and home before stopping behind a house. Redd, 43, Utica Michigan, was hospitalized with severe facial injuries. damage was estimated at 3000 to 3500 dollars.
Norwalk today increased its police cruisers from two to three with the delivery of two new vehicles. One older cruiser was traded in and one kept. One new car is light blue and will serve as an unmarked unit with a portable light. the other has two revolving red lights, a siren, and a loudspeaker system. Both cars have four life protector tires.
