Norwalk Plant Expansion Hints and $20,000 Add-on

Norwalk Furniture Corp signs a 40 acre option west of the bypass near Route 18 for a new plant to be tested for suitability with a decision expected after analysis. If built production would rise 50 percent and jobs would double. The firm’s Newton Street plant is one of two, the other in Cookeville Tennessee. A $20,000 warehouse addition of 40 by 120 feet is planned for Plastic Molders Supply Co. east side at 80 North West Street and is to be done by Milan Steel Co this summer.

Union Believes UAW Loss At Bellevue Factory Open Shop

About 411 Johnson Corporation employees in Bellevue voted 64 percent against unionization in a National Labor Relations Board election. Roy Phillips announced the results, with ballots cast between 1 and 4 45 p m. The company did not release the vote tally.

At Paris talks the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong dismissed Nixon eight point plan as absurd while rejecting only parts of it. Xuan Thuy and Tran Buu Kiem urged U.S. withdrawal with no conditions, criticizing U.S. and allied troops in South Vietnam and stressing their own 10 point terms.

City to bid for low cost housing in Huron authority plan

Three Norwalk representatives will attend a Columbus hearing on the citys bid to join the Huron Metropolitan Housing Authority. Mayor Harold Finch Service Director William Mount and John R Gerken Jr lead the delegation. Gerken urged other Human Relations members to attend. County Commissioner Arthur Herner plans to attend the afternoon session.

Trial In Willard Death Set June 24

Patricia Lawrence of Willard 28 will face trial June 24 for the 1967 slaying of her 32 year old daughter. Indicted for first degree murder she remains at Tiffin State Hospital pending trial. A new Grand Jury is to be convened June 19 with possible murder indictments including John W. Brown in the William Famulare case.

James Roosevelt stabbed by wife in Geneva incident

James Roosevelt son of Franklin D. Roosevelt was stabbed Thursday near his villa in Vesenz Geneva. He was treated at Country Hospital and said to be out of danger. His wife Gladys Irene Owens 52 was taken for observation at Bel Air clinic. Roosevelt, a former California congressman, later identified the assailant as his wife.

Demand New Trial Protest at Case Western Reserve Campus

About 300 student supporters of condemned killer Fred Ahmed Evans occupy Haydn Hall on the Case Western Reserve University campus demanding a new trial. President Robert Morse rejects the demands as fighting with two fraternities ends. Evans, 37, was convicted of first degree murder for July 23 deaths and faces an electric chair sentence on September 22.

Huron County Deputy Health Commissioner Clarence Ellett reports about 50 rat complaints yearly in Norwalk Ohio.
