River Patrol Probes Polluters On Cleveland River

Ohio Attorney General William J. Brown filed a 1.6 million dollar suit and injunction against Sherwin-Williams Co. for discharging paint into the Cuyahoga River. Case Western Reserve students rowed night shifts to sample discharges and monitor pipes, reporting a pollution problem they term a public nuisance.

Indochina battlefield deaths drop to three month low

Saigon report says American battlefield deaths in Indochina fell to 34 in the last seven days, half of the prior week’s toll. Wounded totaled 221, well below earlier weeks, with the lowest injury count since the week ending April 17 when 195 were hurt.

Burglary at Seminary Road Home Reported

Richard L. Shafer found a $1,090 loss after thieves broke into his Seminary Road residence. A portable TV AM FM radio tape recorder and speakers were stolen along with a jewelry box containing watches rings pearls and costume jewelry. Deputy Earl noted the door was pried and likely more than one person involved.

Ohio House Republicans Push Two Year Spending Plan

House GOP leaders seek a two year budget with about 900 million dollars in cuts to Gov Gilligan's proposed biennial budget and aim to reduce the need for a state income tax. Sources say the plan would require roughly 200 to 250 million dollars in new taxes and would nearly eliminate the current tax reliance.

House Committee approves 9 billion Social Security welfare plan

The Ways and Means Committee backed a 9 billion package of Social Security and welfare reforms while rejecting an across the board benefit increase for 26 million Americans next year. The panel also approved 3.3 billion in targeted benefits and higher payroll taxes to fund hikes.

NBC-TYV Cuts Air Time Of Peacock
