Albert Francis Capone Jr. on Monday changed his legal name to Albert Francis, saying his father's Chicago gangster legacy exposes him to publicity for minor crimes. The move follows his remarks on avoiding reigniting the Capone name.
Huron County Juvenile Court Judge Russell T Antrim ordered psychiatric and psychological evaluations for three Bellevue youths linked to a ring of arson involving heated cigarette lighters. The trio were referred to staff at the Huron County Guidance Center after separate hearings. Police allege around 11 youths were burned and five cited in Juvenile Court. others are in Erie County.

City Council will meet in closed session at 7 tonight to discuss pay raises for police fire light and water workers and two possible parking lot sites in the western business district. The electrical distribution dept workers gain 40 cents an hour with some having offers from private firms. Sites are the Church and Main corner leased from the Masons and the Avalon Hotel site at South Hester and Main. Norwalk City Solicitor Fred Waugh prepared purchasing ordinances at the Finance Committee's request.
Farmers report near total loss of early crops after a record May freeze reaching 22 degrees. Strawberries suffer about 75 percent damage across 15 acres on Fred Boose’s Route 61 farm, with 40 acres of sweet corn ruined. Potatoes and tomatoes also hit. celery and peach prospects fade. Extension officials warn damage totals await warmer temps for full assessment.
The expanded 20 member COED Board of Trustees will vote on the Bowling Green University tri county campus site within two weeks. Dr. Richard Jeffery, COED president, announced after a closed Survey Committee meeting at the Sandusky Chamber of Commerce. Four sites were discussed including a location north of Milan with options on three properties. The next trustees’ meeting to elect five new trustees and vote on the site was not yet scheduled. EHOVE was not mentioned in the discussion.
Kenneth New man 20 and Ronald Doncves 19 of Mansfield confessed to breaking into Noel Newman’s Centerton Tavern near Willard on April 16. They admitted taking 16 cartons of cigarettes about $12 from a juke box and cigarette machine plus candy gum and wine.
Henry E Young announces plans to resign as chair of the Huron County Republican Central Committee after the Friday night meeting at St Paul Episcopal Church Norwalk 3-A precinct committeemen elected in the primary will attend. Young will call the meeting and may establish an executive committee with by laws, noting no statutory rule binds the size.
The Huron County Democratic Central and Executive Committees will hold an organizational meeting at 7 p m Wednesday at the Norwalk Eagles Hall. Officers will be elected and precinct committee men named to fill vacancies, followed by a regular meeting at 8 15 p m with the election and appointment proceedings.
