Washington reports reveal a Secret Service agent requesting increased protection after a state dinner incident. A guard wore a borrowed tuxedo jacket with four-inch-short sleeves due to his own being stolen, prompting a police complaint plan.
Rev. Ralph Abernathy, successor to Martin Luther King, calls Americans to aid poor Negroes with a blunt demand for basic foods and dignity. In Massachusetts, Mayor Stokes notes a retired Cleveland couple has donated 1 million to the Cleveland Now anti poverty program, a plan costing 177 million for 18 months and 11.5 billion over a decade.
Mrs. Mary Plummer, 33, of Lincoln Heights, died after stepping into the path of a police cruiser in Lincoln Heights. The incident occurred early today with Ptl. Edward Carter stating the pedestrian appeared suddenly and left officers no time to react as she was pronounced dead on arrival at General Hospital. Police investigators pursued the case.
The Sixth District Court of Appeals reversed Medina County Judge Ralph A. Winter and upheld the Willard Zoning Board of Appeals ruling denying John Pratt a permit for a non conforming use. Pratt sought to replace a drive in restaurant with a carry out store in a residential area. Judge Brown dissented, arguing the Common Pleas Court acted as a review board and the appeal should be dismissed or the judgment affirmed.

Berlin Milan School District will seek a 1.65 million dollar bond issue for a new high school with a five mill levy for 21 years. The board delayed site talks to the next Milan meeting June 12 and accepted Burdue Roofing Co. as the gym roof contractor for 8288 while planning three new buses with bids due May 15.
Saigon is in flames. North Vietnam chief negotiator Xuan Thuy arrived in Paris for preliminary talks with the United States and said Hanoi stands ready for formal negotiations once the U S bombing of the North ends. Thuy delayed arrival after strategy talks in Moscow with Soviet leaders and met Chinese officials en route.
UPI reports Senator Frank Lausche, defeated for the Democratic nomination by John Gilligan, says there will be no post mortems. He shot a 79 at Burning Tree CC near Bethesda, says he feels liberating and grateful to Ohio voters, and plans to return to practicing law in Cleveland with his family.
Water problems threaten the EHOVE Vocational School opening set for September. Erie County has scheduled a June 3 hearing on the Milan water line with construction not starting before July, raising concerns from school officials and commissioners about meeting the September start.
Federal grant of 45 590 approved by Secretary Willard Wirtz funds in school and a 10 week summer program. Fifty youths hold part time jobs in school program while 66 youths participate in summer work. Funds cover through Sept. 1 and had been delayed earlier amid a temporary shutdown of the program.
Western Reserve School Board Supt. Ellis Dunmyer praised strong public support after voters approved a bond issue for a new middle school and repairs. The measure passed by 38 votes as bids were sought for a new roof tiles paint and heating work while plans moved forward.
The Youngstown city school board moved to place a 12 mill operating levy on the June ballot after four prior levies failed. If rejected, schools would close next January with an $812,000 debt by June and a $1 million borrowing to cover current costs, warned board member Robert Murphy.
