Huron County Board Sets Hearing Over Poling Family Transfer
The Huron County Board of Education set a 9 p.m. June 7 hearing to consider transferring the W. E. Poling family from the New London School District to Wellington. The Polings, whose home lies mostly outside Wellington, have children in kindergarten, fifth, eighth and eleventh grades active in Wellington activities. The issue surfaced after voting privileges were denied in a Wellington election, prompting verification with County Superintendent Ralph Brown, who confirmed the error. Brown also cited Lyme district transfer discussions involving the Bellevue and Monroeville boards and noted possible state action if Lyme residents pursue annexation. The board also endorsed two teacher-dominated committees on elementary reading and handwriting textbooks.
