Twenty nine Democratic liberals in the House urge President Johnson to resist demands for bombing or blockading Haiphong Harbor in North Vietnam. They warn escalation could trigger increased Soviet aid and stronger Red China dependence.

Convoy Crash Injures Thirteen Guardsmen Near Norwalk

National guardsmen bound for summer training at Camp Perry suffered injuries when a 150-truck convoy collided south of Norwalk on U.S. 250. Richard McEuen, 20, struck Jerry Kirgesner’s truck, injuring 13 aboard the latter. Four were hospitalized. others treated for contusions and abrasions. McEuen cited for failure to stop.

Woman Accused of Killing Youngster Judged Insane

Patricia Ann Lawrence of Willard has been declared insane by Lima State Hospital after psychiatric exams. She is to be brought back to Norwalk for an insanity hearing scheduled for late next week.

Tragic Morning Crash Kills Three Near Milan

A car carrying a woman and two children was crushed by a semi on Route 113 near Huber Road killing a baby girl a 6 or 7 year old boy and a woman. A small girl was critically injured and the driver from the Cleveland area was in poor condition. Truck driver Alvin A Roser Jr 26 treated for minor injuries. Investigating agencies include Milan Norwalk Bay patrols and Erie County sheriffs. Funeral plans are with Kubach Smith Funeral Home.

Norwalk Names Leonard Hardman as Basketball Coach

Norwalk High School appoints Leonard Hardman as head basketball coach replacing Jerry Druppel. Hardman, 37, comes from Maysville High School where his teams were 79 wins and 22 losses, four Muskingum Valley titles, and a strong defensive emphasis. He will also assist football, with plans to move to Norwalk by summer and continue coaching baseball in the Zanesville area.

Pilots Led Through Angry Mobs in Hanoi

Tass reported captured American pilots were marched past shouting crowds in Hanoi after bailing out from downed warplanes. The US said three F105s were shot down with three pilots missing, while North Vietnam claimed seven aircraft were downed.

Marines Seize Hill 881 After Heavy Fighting

UPI reports North Vietnamese mortars pounded U S Marines who captured Hill 881 after 12 days of fierce combat. One Marine was killed and six wounded before counterfire ended the shelling. Hanoi claimed raids near the capital left seven aircraft downed. Tass noted captured pilots in Hanoi news conferences.
