Josiah Lii a 48 year old Hawaiian labor leader was gunned down at noon Friday outside his downtown Honolulu office after being lured to a meeting by a man. He died at Queen's Hospital from multiple chest wounds.
Friendly Corners Tavern on Old State Road burned in a morning fire of undetermined origin. Firefighters battled flames reported around 4:57 a.m. and by 7 a.m. only exterior walls remained. No cause known, with hydrant lines supplying the fight and an electrical short noted in lifting gear. Owner William Bader, president of All Ohio Sports International, was unavailable. The tavern was insured.
The Internal Revenue Service announced it seized 550 508 dollars of the 1 3 million surplus from the 1972 Nixon re election drive to ensure back tax payments. The funds were used to finance the Watergate break in and later to aid defendants with legal expenses if acquitted.
President Carter and seven allied leaders from the United States France Britain West Germany Japan Canada and Italy opened a productive first session on global economic problems. Carter called the talks excellent and said they were productive while Trudeau called the outlook encouraging. A U.S. spokesman cited focus on three fundamental structural changes in the world economy.

John Ehrlichman writes from prison that Nixon offered him a huge sum of money after firing him. He describes Nixon as giving a maudlin rationalization in the Frost interview and says the former president showed self pity not remorse. Frost seeks extra Nixon material for more broadcasts.
At the private Cleveland Museum of Natural History compound, vandals killed two American bald eagles and multiple other birds including six hawks, an owl, two crows, seven pigeons and a rabbit. Two eagles were injured. guards say the site was entered at night through a ripped cyclone fence.
A former Norwalk man Charles Flickinger and his wife Jill are chosen as principal New Hampshire defendants in a federal case over an illegal sit in at the Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant. About 1,400 demonstrators occupied the site last weekend and are jailed in area armories.
Republicans charged President Carter's energy plan places a burden on the poor and restricts free enterprise calling it defeatist. A half hour ABC TV special aired Friday night used to critique Carter's energy telecasts from April 18 to 22. Congressional Republicans backed goals but questioned methods. Ford officials were among the sharpest critics.
At the Cincinnati Zoo Barney the yellow headed vulture has adopted two ducklings after a test involving a boiled egg and a fertile duck egg. Zoo officials say Barney now guards the ducklings as his own and previously fathered the zoo's only captive yellow headed vulture.
