Secretary of State Rogers arrives from Cairo with a new Egyptian peace plan and warns Israel to seek peace with the Arabs. He cites President Nixon on security arising from peace and meets with Anwar Sadat earlier in the day.
Howard Wilson president of Lebanon Citizens National Bank and his wife and daughter were held at gunpoint while three masked robbers forced him to withdraw more than $100 000 from the night deposit and deliver it to a prearranged location. Police say the family was tied but unharmed and a car was stolen.
A humorous monologue jokes that turning 22 marks a life downturn. The speaker laments aging past youth, compares celebrities younger than him, notes Miss America pages and Playmate imagery, and ends with a vow to drown sorrows with strong drinks.
Patrolman Earle Roy Heisman of Columbiana was abducted by two men who forced him to drive his cruiser into western Pennsylvania. Heisman was gagged and left near his car but crawled to a radio to call for help and was located near Darlington Lake around 1:30 a.m. He is unharmed.
Ohio Senators Taft and Saxbe announced Amtrak authorized a New York to Chicago rail run via Cleveland and Toledo. The May 10 start is provisional awaiting final funding approvals from Ohio New York and Michigan.
