Guardmen Did Not Panic at Kent State Shootings
Ohio Adjutant General S. T. Del Corso defended the National Guard after troops fired on Kent State University students, killing four. He said soldiers felt threatened, fired instinctively, and that the firing was spontaneous and ceased after. Faculty and officials condemned the violence while Governor Rhodes called it the saddest day.
