First batch of rebates ranging from 100 to 200 dollars will be mailed to about 13.7 million Americans in the first week, with a total of 66.8 million recipients expected to receive 8.1 billion dollars in rebates as part of the tax cut package.
Norwalk residents in the West Main Street historic district must apply by month’s end for federal restoration grants. The Ohio Historic Preservation Office in Columbus distributes applications, which require a property photo and repair plan. Grants cover 50 percent of project costs, with last year yielding $865 to the Firelands Museum for roof and structural repairs.

Ohio State Rep. Ethel G. Swanbeck backs a bill to revise malpractice policies. It calls for arbitration before a review commission, triannual doctor re licensing, caps on attorney fees, and risk pooling among insurers. Swanbeck urged quick passage to aid patients and physicians.
Twenty students at Western Reserve Middle School earned superior ratings for science projects.
