Ohio officials announced the first veteran bonus checks should go out by early June as funds become available. Commission director John W. Bush expects one third of applicants to opt for an educational bonus rather than cash.
Norwalk Ohio hosts a reactor panel with four local representatives from business, city, industry, and conservation groups to question EPA head Dr. Ira L. Whitman after his 7:30 p.m. talk at Norwalk High School. Panelists stress environmental costs, safeguards, and fairness in funding. A separate Washington report notes Sen. Proxmire condemns executive pay in 1973 proxy statements as excessive relative to workers' wages.
The Pennsylvania Legislature, in 40 minutes, overrode Gov. Milton Shapp's veto to reinstate the death penalty for murder. Massachusetts House also sent a capital punishment bill to the Senate amid gubernatorial objections. President Nixon announced up to 45 million dollars in beef purchases to be donated as hamburger to school cafeterias to support sagging cattle prices.
A WHO nutritionist cautions that without action the female breast will shed its role in feeding babies and become only a sex symbol. Dr Adewale Omololu of Ibadan warns substitutes feeding many infants, causing infant deaths.

In Richardson Texas police suspect Kevin Nichols an 11 year old who allegedly killed his father Robert 49 his mother Jeannie 51 and sister Debra 13 before taking his own life. Neighbors noticed four days of inactivity prompting church minister Tom Peel to call police. The medical examiner says the deaths occurred last Thursday and investigators found a seven shot .22 caliber pistol under Kevin.
Howard Hughes paid 3.65 million dollars for KLAS-TV to satisfy late night viewing needs. Hank Greenspun testified in a 17.3 million libel suit by Robert Maheu that Hughes lived in seclusion at the Desert Inn from 1966 to 1970 and then bought the station to run it 24 hours a day for his viewing habits.
