Neighbors Sickened by Poison Candy Fatality Reported
In Wooster Ohio a box of candy left in a neighbor’s mailbox contained strychnine. Mr. Clifford Badger died and his wife Helen is in fair condition at Lodi Community Hospital. No charges have been filed. In Ridgecrest California a blank fired during a rehearsal of the musical Oliver struck and killed a performer, Wayne R. Carpenter, 37, at China Lake Naval Weapons Center. His three children were among the audience. Master sergeant Wint T. Dillon, 38, fired two blanks during the show.

Louis Armstrong Resting Comfortably After Heart Ailment
Louis Armstrong, 70, was reported resting very comfortably at New York Hospital amid treatment for a heart condition. A Beth Israel spokesman said he had heart irregularities earlier but was stabilized. his physician Dr Gary Zucker noted a long battle with heart disease but no heart attack. The singer was admitted Monday and remains under care. Meanwhile the February consumer price index rose 0.2 percent, continuing a recent inflationary trend with food, clothing, and medical care significantly up.

Spectacular Norfolk derailment scatters flatcars across Manahan area
A westbound Norfolk and Western freight train derailed near Jefferson Street, tossing five diesel engines and 11 flatcars across Manahan Place. Cars crashed into fences and a maple tree saved a house, with 24 homes losing power until early morning. No injuries reported.
