U.S. Strikes Hit Tanks near Sepone Laos and Hanoi Base

U S air strikes knocked out 12 North Vietnamese tanks in Laos, seven near the Sepone Ho Chi Minh trail junction. South Vietnamese forces destroyed a Communist base camp 15 miles southeast of Sepone and seized 2 000 torpedoes. Sepone was reoccupied by North Vietnamese forces Friday after a South Vietnamese withdrawal. The U S Command reports four Americans killed when a Huey helicopter crashed at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon.

Graham Mulls KSU Crusade

Evangelist Billy Graham said he is seriously considering a crusade at Kent State University. Speaking at a Cleveland dinner, he called campus crusades his most effective effort and cited an invitation from Ohio State University, with Kent State taking precedence.

Convention In Cleveland Bid For 1972 Democratic National Meet

Cleveland invited to bid for the 1972 Democratic national convention as the Democratic Site Committee plans hearings on the site starting March 29. Austin Carr of Notre Dame named college basketball player of the year for 1970 71 by United Press International. Carr will speak in Norwalk May 6 at St Pauls All Sports Banquet. Carr led nationally in scoring with 221 of 394 votes, edging Sidney Wicks of UCLA who received 109.

Power contract not prepared for Norwalk council

Norwalk will not have a draft power contract ready for Tuesday night’s council meeting. A resolution will authorize Service Director Herbert Krogh to arrange a North West Street substation tie in if Ohio Edison can supply power, with an estimated cost around 5000 dollars. Ohio Edison engineers are assessing available power. contract terms hinge on that determination.

Balloon cluster causes plane crash near West Milton

A single engine plane piloted by Wayne Kepp collided with a balloon release from Grace Baptist Church at 1,800 feet. The craft crashed into a muddy field but Kepp and passenger Robert Dayton were unhurt. the plane was destroyed.

Mrs Homer Johns 55 S Linwood Ave was cut on forehead and nose when her hand slipped from the steering wheel and her car hit a parked auto. She was treated and released at Fisher Titus Memorial Hospital. Her car damaged a police officer’s car at 151 Benedict Ave.

Ross Withdraws From Norwalk Charter Race

Optometrist and WLKR sportscaster Dr. Norman Ross pulled out of the Norwalk Charter Commission race citing Federal Communications Commission equal time rules. His exit leaves 17 candidates as of last Friday with May 4 elections for a 15 member commission pending voter approval of a second charter panel.
