Christie Lane Denied Adult Center Funds In Ohio Appeal Planned
A state committee rejected a $600,000 funding request for an adult center at Christie Lane School, saying the facility should not share the site with the children’s school. Marion Waits and the Huron County board plan to appeal, citing economies, community involvement, and precedent in other counties. The board aims to meet the regional MR commissioner within a week to pursue the appeal.

Fire Chief May Challenge Maurice Smith In Primary
County Commissioner Maurice Smith may face intra party competition as Willard Fire Chief John Yacob seeks the Democratic nomination. If petitions are filed by March 23, a June primary will decide the race. Yacob, 59, would retire as fire chief if elected and cites plans to contribute to Huron County. He has 30 years with Willard, serves on regional commissions, and lives in Willard with his wife and two children. A separate Republican primary for the four year term is already forming with Joseph Sherman and John Baltes circulating petitions.
