Parents Protest English Book In New London School
A New London board meeting heard complaints from Mrs Pat Dee and supporters that a sophomore English short story book is inappropriate for sex education. Supt Donald Schick denied the claim and said teachers chose the book to broaden students horizons. Principal Wenner defended its life-skill focus while noting some passages are not read aloud. Board discussed 1978 appropriations and bus needs, tabling action until next week. They also accepted the resignation of Wayne Nelson as boys track coach and hired Walter Taylor, with Ted Whisler named tennis coach for 1978 79. February bills totaling 43 457 were approved despite two dissenting votes over attorney and architect fees.
