Harrison Salisbury of the New York Times told students at Miami University in Oxford Ohio that eastern Asia faces a century of virtually continuous war. He warned of ongoing turbulences akin to nineteenth century European nationalism and said lid on conflicts cannot be kept tight. In England, John Hawkins drove for ten years with learner’s plates covering 90,000 miles before passing the license test and said the first failure undermined his confidence.

Three Norwalk Boy Scout patrols swept the Klondike Derby at Camp Firelands the southwest district sponsored. First place was troop 232 Bear Patrol finishing 5 ½ miles in 174 minutes with troop 218 Raven Patrol close behind and troop 279 Eagle Patrol third. Fifteen patrols from Norwalk Bellevue Greenwich and Monroeville competed as sledges stopped at five towns named after Alaskan cities to perform scouting projects in fire building first aid rope and knot tying compass and distance judging.
