Milan Pioneers Choate Kimball Families Shaped Local Streets
Historical notes trace Milan’s early development through the Choate and Kimball families. Choate Street evolved into Seminary and then Edison Drive, while Elizabeth and Hester streets honor Betsy Choate and Mrs Jenney. Moses Kimball, a New Yorker turned Norwalk merchant and land speculator, built the brick block on West Main and died in 1837 after illness in Shiwassee. The Kimball House later served as a boarding house near the Reflector office. Isaac Choate, linked to the Ohio Land Company, faced dangers in early Ohio and settled in Milan, dying in 1822 with Revolutionary War credentials.
