Strike at Superior Coach winding down as workers return

Workers at Superior Coach Seta of a Corp plant gradually resume duties after a week long strike. Pickets left Thursday evening and several shifts are back, despite a vote against ending the strike. Court orders limit picketing and ban damage while arbitration mechanisms are cited for grievances.

Flood Money Due In 6 Weeks

In about six weeks Huron County expects the final federal reimbursement for flood repairs on public property from the 1969 flood. Federal auditors projected a six week timeline and an additional $50 000 to come, with prior payments totaling $212 241. Norwalk will be notified of nearly $118 000 for city flood damage and Krogh was told the city would receive about $500 less than requested.

South Vietnamese retake Fire Base Fuller in dawn operation

Saigon reports say elite Black Panther units led more than 3,000 South Vietnamese troops to recapture Fire Base Fuller less than a day after its fall to North Vietnamese forces. Allied bombing left the base ruined and four Americans were killed by a separate eastern ground attack and booby trap.

Court Orders Waldorf Refund for Sundry Charges

The New York State Supreme Court ordered the Waldorf Astoria Hotel to refund over $100,000 in sundry charges added to guest bills from December 1969 through May 1970. The court also prohibited the hotel from resuming the 2 percent charge for internal message and telephone service. Attorneys said they would appeal.

Nixon Crimie Shot By Chicago Police

Chicago police fatally shot James E. Beavers 47 of Squire W Va during a Grant Park shootout hours before President Nixon’s Meigs Field visit. Beavers, a critic of Nixon’s Southeast Asia policy, carried two .32 caliber revolvers. Secret Service investigates no connection to Nixon.

Riders Prohibited On Reservoir Dike

City to install cables on reservoir dikes to prevent vehicle use warnings posted all vehicles prohibited. State and city authorities may prosecute violators for operating on top of the dike. Vehicles allowed in Memorial Lake Park. Some arrests reported for riding motorbikes on the dike.

Former President Johnson in unpublished memoirs reportedly considered large scale Vietnam involvement in 1964 before public knowledge. Newsday cites a publishing industry source for The Vantage Point to be released in November. Johnson shows hesitation before bombing recommendations and later troop increases. He met Eisenhower on February 17, 1965 and was urged to press the North.

Berlin Heights Names Arthur Buchwald Man of the Year

Arthur Buchwald of Main Road Berlin Heights is named Man of the Year by a committee of the Berlin Heights Jaycees and Kiwanis. Buchwald has lived in Berlin Heights since 1945 and works for a Birmingham firm. He has 25 years in Boy Scouts and holds the Silver Beaver Award. He participates in Masonic lodges in Berlin Heights Milan and Norwalk.

Audubon Opposes Spraying Mosquitoes in Audubon

The Firelands Audubon Society opposes malathion spraying in the area and plans a meeting at 38 Stoutenburg Dr. at 8 p.m. Monday to voice objections. Members cite potential harm to animals and bees and urge city officials to reconsider the July 1 spraying with Snyder's Flying Service if weather permits.
