In Columbus the Nationalist and Federalist parties caucused to nominate candidates for all county and state offices for the Buckeye Girls State program. One thousand two hundred forty-one high school girls at Capital University will file petitions, vote in a primary Tuesday morning, and choose delegates in the general election later that day. Safety study planned for Ridge Road after recent accidents
Huron County commissioners and County Engineer Urban Livengood will study safety on Ridge Road a three mile south of Norwalk near Dublin Road after two residents spoke out. A late Saturday crash killed Dennis Meade 19 of Willard and May 30 wreck claimed William Krisha 23 in the same area. Speed survey showed average 57 mph on Ridge and Peru Center Roads.

Murder Charge Is Filed Against Ex-Local Woman
Arlene Norwood of 304 Michigan Ave Sandusky was arrested by Erie County Deputies after her son Ronald 22 died 2 1 2 hours later from gunshot wounds. The shooting appears to involve a .22 rifle in the Norwoods former Sleepy Hollow motel family home. Ronald lived with his parents at the time. Norwood remains jailed as investigators seek motive.

Juvenile suspects questioned in northwest city vandalism spree
Police and juvenile court officials questioned three juvenile suspects as officers investigated a weekend surge of vandalism in the northwest section. Reports describe slashed tires on cars and bikes, damaged pools and signs, with at least one other youth involved. Norwalk native James R. Chapman netted $21 000 as Out The Window surged from behind to win the Ohio Derby at Thistledown in Cleveland on Sunday. Jockey Bobby Wall rode ninth to four then finished second by a head behind Backbiter in a tight stretch. It was the horse's seventh victory in 14 starts.

Chapman's debut horse Box Cars took a major victory worth $21,000, marking the biggest win of his under two year racing career. He now owns 13 horses and operates a truck leasing firm from Tallmadge Ohio with wife Carol and four daughters. After the win he appeared on TV as brother John watched from Norwalk. Out the Window sold for $12,000 at Gulfstream Park last winter.
