Norwalk’s Blue Ribbon tax panel plans no 1977 income tax increase unless federal revenue sharing funds fall sharply. If funds drop, a quarter of one percent rise would cover the loss, with a potential permanent change. The panel also backs voting in 1977 on using 3.2 million dollars from the electric plant trust for capital improvements.
South Central High School will get a new principal this fall as Ill Toney 38 of Asheville was hired by the board. He replaces Nathan Baker who resigned and has previously led Tays Valley High School. Toney is married with two children and will be paid 20000 dollars.
Willard residents report cigarette butts and papers littering property behind Willard High School. Bob Barry presented bags of debris to the Board of Education, urging action to stop loitering and littering this fall. The board approved a taxi contract to transport six handicapped children to Mansfield daily for $34.50 per round trip.
Gary Swinehart, 32, sworn in to fill the unexpired two year term of William Jackson on the Wakeman village council. He will join sanitation, street, public relations and water panels as Jerry Pickett resigns from one seat. Council previews a revised fireworks ordinance, replacing a 52 year old rule. Police hire Virgil Valentine and Bill Hartman as part time patrolmen at 2.30 hourly. Mayor Frederick denies speed trap claims as police report four speeding citations daily.
