First Laetrile death likely accidental cyanide poisoning

A 10 month old girl Elizabeth Hankin of Attica New York died from cyanide poisoning after ingesting Laetrile tablets used by her father. Authorities say the death may be the first Laetrile related accidental fatality in the United States. The source did not confirm how many tablets were taken or how the drug was obtained.

Last Escapee Recaptured in Brushy Mountain Breakout

Douglas Shelton, the final of five escapees from Brushy Mountain State Prison with James Earl Ray, was recaptured eight miles northwest of the prison. He faces a 98 year sentence for murder, assault and grand larceny.

Airline Requires 65 Percent Non-Smoking Seats On Eastern Flights

Civil Aeronautics Board settlement with Eastern Airlines reserves 65 percent of seats for non-smokers and expands no smoking sections. The accord, backed by Public Citizen and Action on Smoking and Health, includes a $10,000 fine for 14 violations and applies to all flights including shuttles and charters.

Hungry hitchhiker hurls store barricades in Lincoln

Elyria Auditors Say City Finances In Serious Shape

State Auditor Thomas Ferguson reports Elyria in a serious financial condition with potential bankruptcy risk due to overdrawn city funds totaling 2.77 million as of December 31 1976.
