Dreamland to Talkies The Temple Theatre in Willard 58 Years
The Temple Theater closed June 1 due to owner C M Boyer ill health leaving Willard without a movie house for 58 years. Dreamland began in 1907 at Pearl and Maplewood in a skating rink later evolving through Myrtle Avenue venues before the 1910 Chicago Ohio Temple Co building housed the first talkies in 1927. The temple, built in 1910 for 37527, later housed Golden Rule Lodge and eventually the theater portion sold to Tracy then to Boyer in 1946. The city hopes for sale or arrangement to preserve the site for civic use.
