Norwalk City School system reports 45 resignations as of Friday, including Joseph Williamson who leaves June 30 and will leave Norwalk without a clerk or superintendent by that date. Dr. S R Corbin plans to leave June 17 for overseas government post.
Joseph Cardinal Ritter, archbishop of St. Louis and a prominent ecumenical figure, died at age 74 after two heart attacks this week. He had been near death for days as his health deteriorated.
UPI reports American planes struck Hanoi for the third time in the Vietnam War, hitting a key power plant. Navy pilots also targeted a missile base and a truck park on Hanoi’s outskirts in the first raids on the city since May.
A 20 year old rural Monroeville man, Robert L. Foreman, backed his car into a power pole on Rose Avenue after leaving a Whittlesey carryout. He fled on foot but was chased by two Norwalk officers and captured. He remained in Norwalk City Jail awaiting a Mayor's Court hearing on drunken driving driving without a license and resisting arrest. Officers reported the incident occurred at 10 50 p.m. Friday.
New London voters approve joining a Regional Planning Commission in Huron County and backing a Metropolitan Housing Authority. The commission vote passed 4 to 1, while the housing authority measure carried 3 to 2, with local funding and local administration contingent on need for low income housing.

A Norwalk Junior High bus was hit by rocks in a park area near Cleveland Hough Friday afternoon. Driver Eugene Meili said a rock about the size of his fist struck the bus, injuring two girls. Chaperon Mrs. Charles Thompson recalled a scream and blood, while passengers praised the students’ calm behavior.
