A family moving to Milan drew neighbors’ attention when a moving van owned by Howard Avent of Newport News Virginia toppled gas meters struck trees damaged lawns and jackknifed on Bond Street. Avent, 46, was cited for lack of physical control and fined 200 dollars with 50 suspended. The Sellers must repair damaged furniture.
In Pearland near the Manned Spacecraft Center, Air Force Major and astronaut Edward Givens Jr., 37, died in a one car accident early today. Two other men were seriously injured. Police chief A H Casey said they appeared to have driven into a dead end. Givens had been recently chosen for the space flight program but was not assigned to a mission.
Hollywood stars join Gov. Reagan and Mayor Yorty at a Sunday rally for Israel's survival. Edward G Robinson will lead an original drama with Dinah Shore Jan Sterling Nehemiah Persoff and Peter Sellers among the attendees.
The Ohio Senate voted 16-13 against a bill to set a uniform first grade entry age. Present law allows age six before Oct 31, but boards have used earlier cutoffs. The measure would allow earlier entry for two years, with Sept 30 as the state cutoff starting fall 1969.

A 1966 Huron County Sheriff's cruiser was wrecked on State Route 101 in Seneca County when Deputy John L. Warner approached two northbound cars driven by Junior E. Pletcher and Mary Hoerig. The cruiser struck Pletcher's left front fender and redirected into a embankment and power pole. The incident remains under investigation.
Military experts warned victory or defeat could be decided in the next 48 hours as ground fighting replaces air action. They described Israel aiming to blitz Egypt to seize Gaza and push toward Suez, with Jordan and Syria holds and a possible assault on Sharm El Sheikh.
Norwalk moves to seek federal funding for a 500000 dollar sewage upgrade after approval by the Ohio Board of Health. The plan includes a new trickling bed and two pump houses to double secondary treatment capacity and add third stage treatment for the first time. Morley Price and Councilman William C. Saladin Jr. met state officials in Columbus before approval.
Eight bids were opened by the Cleveland Post Office Real Estate Office for the Milan post office building. Carey, Ohio firm led by Vernon Huston, Sr. was the lowest bidder, with Bernardi Ross Construction of Youngstown second. Award planned in two to three weeks pending credit checks.
Norwalk Township Trustees met Monday night to approve drainage tile installation along Sand and Gibbs Roads within two weeks to ease severe flood conditions after heavy rains. They also learned Ohio Northern Telephone Co will move poles along Gibbs to permit road widening.
Susan Giles 16 was named queen of the Open Gate Saddle Club of the Central Ohio Horse Association. Mayor Harold E. Finch crowned her. She is the first Huron County candidate to reach the state Queen contest, to be held October 6 and 7 in Ashland. The judging includes a composition written test horsemanship and personal appearance. The association has 1000 members in 54 clubs.
